A Fast, Effective Cosmetic Solution
If you find yourself struggling with the appearance of your smile or you’re simply looking to enhance it, our natural-looking dental veneers may be a great option for you. Dental veneers are thin porcelain shells that bond directly to the front surface of your tooth, giving your smile a naturally flawless look. The entire veneer’s process is easy, effective, and only requires two visits to our dental office.
Benefits of Dental Veneers
Dental veneers boost your confidence, improve your appearance, and can fix a variety of dental issues, including:
- Discolored, stained, or yellowed teeth
- Misaligned, uneven teeth
- Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
- Worn-down teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth that are too small or large
- Teeth resistant to whitening agents
Are veneers permanent?
Veneers last for a long time, but they aren’t permanent. Veneers can last 10 to 15 years or longer with proper care, but they’ll have to be replaced eventually. If your veneer falls off or is damaged, call our office immediately so we can examine your veneers. We can replace your veneer or all of your veneers if they’re due for a replacement.
To help your veneers last longer, it’s important to brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, use an antibacterial mouthwash, and visit your dentist twice a year for checkups and cleanings. Also, avoid chewing on too many hard or crunchy foods, such as ice. This can damage your veneers as well as your natural teeth.
How the Veneers Process Works
During your first visit, we’ll discuss your smile goals and create a customized treatment plan specific to your dental needs. We’ll then take an impression of your teeth to ensure your veneers look and feel perfect. The impressions will be sent to a dental laboratory where your veneers will be created, typically taking two to four weeks.
Once your custom veneers are ready, you’ll come back to our office to have them placed. One of our doctors will safely remove a portion of your tooth enamel to make room for the veneer. Once you’re satisfied with the shape and color, we’ll use a bonding agent to adhere the veneers to your teeth. After this step is complete, you’re ready to show off your new, beautiful smile.
Is the veneer’s procedure painful?
No, our dental veneer’s procedure is virtually painless and is over within two short appointments. Our Oelwein dentists utilize minimally invasive approaches, ensuring that patients feel the least amount of pain as possible. You may experience some mild discomfort after your veneers are placed, but this should fade within a few hours.
Caring for Your Dental Veneers
While veneers aren’t a permanent solution, they can last up to 15 years or longer if cared for properly. To help improve the longevity of your dental veneers, you’ll want to follow these guidelines:
- Refrain from tooth-staining foods and beverages such as red wine, coffee, and berries
- Avoid eating hard foods such as ice, candy, popcorn, and nuts
- Wear a mouthguard at night to prevent teeth grinding, or bruxism
- Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and rinse between meals
Do veneers ruin your teeth?
No, veneers don’t ruin your teeth. To place the veneers, we’ll have to remove a tiny amount of enamel so the veneers will look natural. This won’t affect the health of your teeth as long as you’re taking good care of them. Taking care of your teeth helps to keep them healthy and also helps your veneers last longer.
Are Dental Veneers Right for You?
There a variety of reasons why patients choose to receive dental veneers, from improving their smile aesthetics to correcting a dental issue. You may be an ideal candidate for veneers if you want to:
- Cover broken or chipped teeth
- Even out the appearance of your smile
- Conceal teeth that have been fractured
- Cover stains resistant to a whitening agent
- Make small teeth appear larger
