Overdentures for Full Arch Replacement
If you’re missing teeth, you’re not alone. Tooth loss is very common in our society. In fact, as many as 35 million Americans don’t have any of their natural teeth. It used to be that the only way to restore function to a full arch was with removable dentures. But now, we can create natural-looking dentures and attach them to several dental implants for a more secure, comfortable fit.
The Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures
Many of the benefits of dental implants depend on the process of osseointegration, in which the jawbone fuses to the implant fixture. This fixture replaces the natural tooth roots, stimulating the growth of the jawbone so it stays strong and healthy. Osseointegration is also what creates the stability needed to secure the dentures so they never risk slipping out of place.
Compared to traditional, removable dentures, implant-supported dentures:
- Maintain jawbone strength and oral health
- Preserve facial structure and appearance
- Restore full chewing function
- Won’t slip out of place, allowing you to smile and speak with confidence
The Overdenture Process
The first step to restoring your smile is a consultation with Dr. Kruger. He’ll speak with you about your needs and goals and help you decide if implant-supported overdentures are the right choice. You’ll also receive a full examination of your teeth, gums, and jawbone utilizing our CBCT scanner for precise 3D images which Dr. Kruger uses to create your personalized treatment plan.
Some patients may benefit from preliminary procedures–such as gum disease treatment–to prepare their mouths for implant placement. People who are missing many but not all of their natural teeth may need to have failing teeth removed as part of their treatment. Other patients may benefit from a bone grafting procedure to increase the density of the jawbone, creating a strong foundation for the implants.
Dr. Kruger offers several dental implant treatment methods and will help determine the best option for you. Whenever possible he prefers to use the All-on-4® method which requires only four, strategically-placed implants to secure a full-arch denture. And in many cases, he can place a temporary denture the same day as implant placement so you can enjoy a fully restored smile throughout the recovery period.
